Several
dozens of Ukrainian and Polish young people held the action “New
Europe – youth against the walls”. They pulled down the wall, which
symbolized the barrier between Ukraine and European Union. The
cardboard wall with a slogan “There is no united Europe without
Ukraine” was pulled down when Pink Floyd melody sounded (the melody
when Berlin’s wall was destroyed).The action was initiated by Polish
Youth Democracy Fond and Nasha Sprava, the Volyn Public Youth
Organizations Centre and European Information Center in Lutsk.
Vladyslav Stemkovskiy, the chairman of the Nasha Sprava, the Volyn
Public Youth Organizations Centre said, “On the first of May the
boarder with Poland actually becomes the boarder with European Union.
The new political and economical division of Europe mustn’t produce
artificial barriers. The boarder isn’t to be the wall between West
and East”. He emphasized, that young people of Ukraine and Poland
want to draw attention to the fact that the EU is to take into
account the historical and nowadays close relationships between
Ukraine and new state-members.
In the interview, the participant of the action, Volodymyr Bondar,
the national deputy, said, “The choice of Ukraine is the European
integration. We believe and live according to European values. This
is the only alternative for our state, situated in the geographical
center of Europe. Our great national aim is to become a member of EU
can be achieved only, when we’ll do the step forward every day”.
As Alina Shpak, the chairman of European Information Center admitted
“Berlin’s wall is destroyed and it is necessary to do all possible
not to allow the new “European wall” distance people artificially.
We realize our problems on the way to European family and we wish to
solve them. But till now we don’t see the clear line whether the EU
is ready to support us in wish not to stop the European integration”,
added she.
Pavel Bobolovych, the chairman of Polish Youth Democracy Fond, said
about wish to celebrate the date when Ukraine will become the EU
member. Now, as he said, Poland will be Ukrainian friend in united
Europe
